Triathlon ACT Annual Presentation Dinner
TACT Award Winners for 2009/10
Awards for 2009/10 were handed out at last Fridays presentation dinner. A great night was had by all and an excellent presentation from Michael Flynn, the AIS High Performance Director was the highlight of the evening.
A brand new award, The Simon Thompson Award for Most Outstanding Performance by a Junior was also a feature of the evening and presented to Michael Gosman for his incredible achievements in being selected for the Youth Olympic Games and World Championship teams.

The TACT Annual Awards Dinner is set for Friday 7 May at the Canberra Southern Cross Club, Woden so lock it into your calendar now.
It’s been another big year of duathlon/triathlon/aquathlon in Canberra. It’s now time to hand out the awards for all the hard work, to dress up and to party.
Let’s all get together and congratulate and support our top triathletes and party with TACT and club members.
The Theme for this year is “All dressed up in club colours” or if you’re not in a club “All dressed up in TACT colours (blue and yellow with a hint of Orange))”.

The dinner will include a guest speaker or two. Michael Flynn, the AIS Triathlon National Performance Director will be a guest speaker for the dinner on how Australia’s top triathletes are training and performing. There will be lots of awards and lucky door prizes.

TACT members are asked to put forward their nominations for each of the following awards. Send your nominations to admin@triathlonact.com.au
Please note:
A member MUST be nominated by a member of the TACT triathlon community to be considered for the award. No nomination = No chance of being given the award. So if there is someone out there who you feel deserves to be recognised, please do not hesitate in sending in a nomination with reasons behind the nomination.
- There has been a slight change to the rules for the Darren Luskey ironman award to recognise the efforts of any of our members in any ironman event worldwide in the previous 12 month period.
- A new award for outstanding performances by a junior has been added this season.
- Nominations close COB April 16 so please get those nominations in as soon as possible.
Darren Luskey Award for Ironman Achievement
Objective: to recognise the “best performed” TACT member at any Ironman event (3.8km/180km ride/42.2km run) in Australia or overseas having regard to:
• the athlete’s overall finishing position and in their category;
• the athlete’s previous race history including previous Ironman performances;
• their commitment and dedication;
• other factors relevant to their performance, including, without limitation injury, illness, personal circumstances.
The time period to be considered for this award begins the day after the previous Australian Ironman in Port Macquarie and ends with the completion of this season’s Australian Ironman event.
Volunteer of the Year Award
Objective: to recognise the outstanding contribution of one or more people to the sport of triathlon in the ACT, recognising that without the contribution of such people it would not be possible for TACT to perform in the way that it does having regard to:
• the person’s individual contribution both in terms of time and contribution;
• the impact and benefit to TACT of that contribution;
• the individual’s contribution to the sport of triathlon in general.
Outstanding Achievement in Triathlon
Objective: to recognise athletic achievement in the sport of triathlon and its related disciplines of duathlon and aquathlon for outstanding performances outside of the ACT to recognise outstanding performances that would not otherwise be recognised in the ACT.
This award will automatically be awarded to a TACT member who places 1st, 2nd or 3rd in a World Championship Event.
This will be given for other outstanding performances having regard to the following criteria:
• status of event, eg World Championship or other International Event;
• ranking of athlete;
• whether racing as elite or age group;
• overall performance and results over the race season.
Award for Most Outstanding Performance by a Junior
Objective: to recognise athletic achievement in the sport of triathlon by a junior in an event that would not otherwise be recognised in the ACT.
This will be given for outstanding performances having regard to the following criteria:
• Status of event, National/State Championships or other high profile events
• Overall performance and results over the race season
• Whether racing as elite or age group
• Improvements in performance over the race season
Special Achievement in Coaching
Objective: to recognise the important role that coaches play in athletic performance and to specifically recognise a coach or coaches who have made an outstanding contribution to the performance of an athlete or group of athletes having regard to the following criteria:
• performance of the coach’s athlete or athletes;
• the coach’s contribution to the sport of triathlon in the ACT;
• the coach’s role in mentoring and developing other coaches in the ACT;
• the coach’s contribution to coaching courses (if any) delivered in the ACT;
• the coach’s contribution to the development of the sport of triathlon in the ACT including, to increased TACT membership and participation in TACT events.
Novice of the Year
Objective: to recognise the performance of a competitor in the Novice series who has participated in the Novice Program having regard to the following criteria:
• athletes participation in the Novice Series and their results in that series;
• the athletes fitness prior to commencing the Novice Program;
• improvements in performance over the Program and the Series;
• the athlete’s contribution to their Club over the Novice Program and Series;
• any relevant personal circumstances such as illness, injury etc.
